When does marketing hide internal problems?

It confuses me that many sites focus on appearance and marketing, but almost do not disclose the internal processes. Everything looks too perfect, which is suspicious. Do you consider this a normal practice or, conversely, a sign that there may be problems behind a beautiful shell?
