Correct RS3 gold me if I am wrong... it is exactly what I read on manuals I never went to there or even completed the quest nonetheless. That's how I do it. So it is a pattern and they do not just switch their attacks randomly, right? Nah it's random, it is just they don't actually hit with melee at all, therefore it's much better to pray agaisnt magic or variety. If they're about to begin ranging, when they roar, a little bone shard thing will appear, and move upward, though it can be a little tricky to spot sometimes. Keep a watch out when the demon's just been meleeing.
At slayer tower you'd kill them quicker with melee so if that is what you want go with that route. Armor should be your best magic protection (Attack is melee but it's defense is based off magic so d'hide and the like) or if you feel like praying (Bit of a waste unless you are combating the mutated ones using a cannon) then best prayer protection and plead protect melee. For weapons go along with your greatest slash weapon.
However I would do range since they're quite amazing for range xp being basically giant meatsacks. Furthermore, there are lots of semi-safespots through the slayer tower to array them from. As you'd be attempting to safespot these (Obtaining them caught on walls, piles of rubble and such as they take two squares) go OSRS Money to your best range bonus equipment, archer helm/robin, finest dragonhide, snakeskin boots/ranger.
