Harris blasts Trump’s response to pandemic

At the outset of Wednesday’s Newport 100s Box vice presidential debate, the Democratic nominee for vice president, Sen. Kamala Harris of California, went after the Trump administration’s handling of the coronavirus pandemic, calling it “the greatest failure” in U. S. presidential history.

“The American people have witnessed what is the greatest failure of any presidential administration in the history of our country, ” Harris said on the debate stage at the University of Utah in Salt Lake City. “And here are the facts: 210, 000 dead people in our country in just the last several Newport Cigarettes Shop months, over 7 million people who have contracted this disease, one in five businesses closed. We’re looking at frontline workers who have been treated like sacrificial workers. We are looking at 30 million people who, in the last several months, had to file for unemployment. ”

Harris, a former prosecutor and state attorney general, then zeroed in on revelations by recordings made Newport Pleasure by Bob Woodward, the Washington Post reporter, that President Trump purposefully downplayed the seriousness of the pandemic to the American people.

“And here’s the thing, on Jan. 28, the vice president and the president were informed about the nature of this pandemic, ” Harris said. “They were informed that it’s lethal in consequence, that it is airborne, that it will affect young people and that it would be contracted because it is airborne. And they knew what was happening, and they didn’t tell you.

“They knew and they covered it up, ” she continued. “The president said it was a hoax. They minimized the seriousness of it. ”.
