TORONTO -- Canada has gone through more than a few soccer blueprints in the past with a mixed bag of results. Tarik Cohen Youth Jersey . Next week, the Canadian Soccer Association unveils its latest road map -- a strategic vision for 2014-2018. And while there have been recent successes on the soccer field, the failure of the national mens program remains a sore issue. Still CSA general secretary Peter Montopoli, who says the new plan "is for the long-term," sees positives on the Canadian soccer landscape. "I feel very good about the foundation that weve placed here over the last number of years for the CSA," he said in an interview. "So while a lot of people talk about the end result -- if we were to say that would be, lets say, the mens national team -- I think weve laid a solid foundation to move forward for the sport in our country." That includes restructuring the associations governance, the success of the national womens program, retaining womens coach John Herdman in the face of rival offers, success at the mens under-17 level and hiring a veteran respected coach in Benito Floro for the senior mens squad, among other healthy developments. As the official governing body for soccer in Canada, the CSA oversees everyone from kids kicking a ball around to top pros. But many judge the association on the performance of the mens national squad, seen as the flagship team -- and for many, the face of Canadian soccer around the world. The Canadian men are currently stuck on a bumpy road that stretches back to the 8-1 humiliation in Honduras in October 2012 that knocked them out of World Cup qualifying. Stephen Hart threw himself on his sword in the wake of that lopsided defeat, resigning as manager. His overseers continued at the helm. CSA president Victor Montagliani and Nick Bontis, board member and chair of the strategic committee, will join Montopoli on Jan. 23 in unveiling the new plan. Montopoli says there are many sides to soccer in Canada. "It should not be lost on people that were doing well in terms of where we are with a lot of other things," he said, pointing to player registration and the fact Canada ranks in the top five per cent of qualifying for FIFA competitions. Still, the Canadian men have not won since being knocked out of World Cup qualifying. A 2-0 loss to Slovenia on Nov. 19 in Celje stretched the Canadian mens winless streak to 14 games. Canada is 0-11-3 over the streak and hasnt scored in 10 games. The winless run has seen the Canadian men outscored 27-2. Canada has not won since a 3-0 World Cup qualifying victory over Cuba in Toronto four days before the Honduras debacle. In the national teams defence, Canada has played tough opposition in Australia, Costa Rica, Czech Republic, Denmark, Japan, Mexico, Panama, Slovenia and the U.S. And Floro has looked to young talent since taking over the squad last summer. The Canadian men were No. 111 in the world, prior to Thursdays new rankings. That put them 11th in CONCACAF, which covers North and Central America and the Caribbean. Canada was ranked 86th in January 2009 at the start of the last blueprint. Its highest position since was No. 53 in October 2009; the lowest was No. 114 (an all-time worst) in November 2013. But some may have forgotten that while Canada went unbeaten 15 games straight during Holger Osiecks 46-game tenure as coach -- a streak that including the 2000 Gold Cup win -- Canada was also shut out 16 times under the German. The CSA was hit and miss on the "major 2013 milestones" identified in its Strategic Plan 2009-2013. It succeeded on a medal by the senior women at a World Cup or Olympics (2010 Olympic bronze). And it came through on its goal of hosting the 2015 Womens World Cup. But it failed on World Cup qualification by the men, taking its annual budget past the $25-million mark and has yet to surpass one million registered players in Canada. In 2009, the association budget was $12 million or $13 million. It went on to top $20 million some years but did not make $25 million. The current association budget is around $20 million. As for player registration, the number has come close to 900,000. But the latest figures for 2013 are not yet in. The Canadian senior women are currently ranked seventh in the world as they prepare for the 2015 World Cup. Canada is also hosting the 2014 FIFA-20 Womens World Cup. Montopoli says the CSA is running "one of largest womens budgets worldwide" and looking after the mens youth programs. "Theres no shortcuts taken on the mens youth side or on the womens entire program." Montopoli said it was hard to compare mens and womens senior budgets given the different stages the teams face during the quadrennial cycle. Asked if the women were better bankrolled than the men, he replied: "In certain years the answer would be yes." While the CSA is "putting a lot of emphasis" on the women, it is not "shortchanging the mens senior or youth programs, Montopoli said. He pointed to the fact the men played 13 games during 2013, when in the past the senior program has but all been shuttered the year after a failed World Cup qualification. And how the Jets lost the 5-4 game to the New York Islanders on Thursday is what had Coach Claude Noel hot after the game. One day earlier, though, fellow Toronto Maple Leafs centre Nazem Kadri wasnt so sure his home and native land could pull off the win against the United States in the semi-finals of the Olympic hockey tournament. Scolari says that although Brazilians have the right to complain about the government and demand improvements, perhaps the protests wont be coming at the "right time.CLEVELAND - Tampa Bay defensive tackle Gerald McCoy never afraid to speak his mind went out of his way to rave about Browns quarterback Brian Hoyer.During the week, McCoy told reporters he respected Hoyer for his intelligence, athleticism and how he conducts himself on and off the field. This wasnt an act, some attempt at psyching out Hoyer. McCoy meant every word.On Sunday, McCoy said it to Hoyers face.He came up to me during the game and hes like, Hey, I meant everything I said, Hoyer said following Clevelands 22-17 victory over the Buccaneers. To know youre earning the respect around the league means a lot.And Hoyer isnt the only one getting praise. The Browns, stuck in a degrading cycle of losing for years, have the NFLs attention. They definitely know about the Cleveland Browns, said safety Tashaun Gipson, who picked up his sixth interception. They take the Browns seriously. They have no choice. You dont win five games by mistake.Hoyers 34-yard touchdown pass to wide receiver Taylor Gabriel with 8:59 left gave Cleveland the lead, and the Browns confounding defence was able to protect it.Clevelands fourth victory in five games helped the Browns (5-3) surpass last years win total and gave them some momentum heading into Thursday nights matchup with AFC North-leading Cincinnati. The Browns havent been this good at the midway point since 2007, when Pro Bowl tackle Joe Thomas was a rookie. Its been a long time, Thomas said. The Browns concluded a three-game stretch against three of the NFLs weakest teams Jacksonville, Oakland and Tampa Bay are a combined 2-23 with two wins. They were ugly at times, and the Browns still have a lot of areas to clean up, but Cleveland teams in the past probably would have found ways to lose. Not this one. Hoyer shook off two interceptions and the Browns blocked a field goal and punt to pull out the win.For a team whos culture has been losing, I dont know if a few years ago and I can only speak for my time here I dont know if a Browns team wins that game, Hoyer said. The Buccaneers (1-7) have lost four straight and five games by six points or less. Coach Lovie Smith is seeing progress, but its not translating to wins. There is no doubt that we are headed in the right direction, but you could say that about four games ago, Smith said.. Adam Shaheen Womens Jersey. . We have to find a way to win a game.By November football, you are supposed to be playing your best football and we havent. There was little time for the Browns to celebrate. Coach Mike Pettine said he and his staff planned to grind in the office a little bit on Sunday night to prepare for the Bengals (5-2-1), who will provide a much better measuring stick than Clevelands three previous opponents. Here are five other takeaways from the Browns win over the Buccaneers:HOYERS HEART: Hoyer passed for a season-high 300 yards and stayed in after taking several hard hits. He improved to 8-3 as Clevelands starter, but not before he was booed by some Browns fans who cant let go of the thought of Johnny Manziel behind centre.Obviously, we need to play better, he said. Our fans expect more out of us, and we expect more than our fans do.HEY, ROOMIE: Bucs rookie WR Mike Evans caught a pair of 24-yard TD passes from Mike Glennon and celebrated both scores by making the money gesture made famous by his Texas A&M roommate, Manziel.Evans finished with seven catches for 124 yards, but was called for pass interference in the final two minutes, wiping out a key first down.WINNS WIN: Browns defensive end Billy Winn made the most of his first game back in several weeks. Winn blocked a field goal in the first quarter by placing his hands on two Tampa Bay lineman and leaping over them.I landed on both feet, said Winn, who had never blocked a kick before. Its one of my old skateboard moves.SUB-PAR SUB: Glennon fell to 1-4 since replacing the injured Josh McCown. Glennon made some strong throws, but missed a couple hed like to have again. The two picks in the first half were not good at all, he said. Should have been potentially two touchdowns, throws that I need to make.INJURY FRONT: Browns rookie CB Justin Gilbert took a blow to the head in the fourth quarter and was helped from the field, but the team said he did not have a concussion. DB Johnson Bademosi, one of the Browns top special teamers, sustained a concussion on a crack-back block covering a punt. Buccaneers LB Lavonte David was helped off the field after he was dropped by Browns RB Terrance West, but the team said he was not seriously injured.___AP NFL website: www.pro32.ap.org and www.twitter.com/AP_NFL Cheap NFL Jerseys Wholesale Jerseys Wholesale NFL Jerseys Jerseys From China Wholesale NFL Jerseys Cheap NFL Jerseys Cheap Jerseys ' ' '
